UK Botox Guide
Botox can improve wrinkles caused by muscle contraction, such as frown lines, forehead lines, and crow's feet. It is injected directly into the muscles that cause the wrinkles, using a very small needle.
Botox can also be used to treat excessive sweating of the armpits and palms of the hands.
When injected into the skin, botox acts by blocking acetylchlorine, a chemical that's responsible for transmitting electrical impulses that cause muscle contraction. The result is a temporary muscle paralysis, although new growth of nerves will re-innervate the muscles.
As a result of the procedure localised discomfort and bruises can occur, but no anaesthetic is usually needed. Normal activities can be resumed immediately, and the effects of the procedure are in evidence within 24-72 hours.
